Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate

Cargill & Cocio a subsidiary of Arla Foods support orphanage (05/03/2010)

Supporting local communities in which we work and live is important for Cargill. That is why we are pleased that Arla Foods has joined our efforts to support a children’s home in Ivory Coast.

The orphanage is situated in Soubré, the first cocoa producing district of the country. It currently cares for 12 children and is in great need of repair and supplies. The orphanage is run by Mrs. Ouedraogo Passanoinbé Maimouna, who in 1967, at the tender age of 12, lost her parents and had to take care of her 6 month old brother. He became the first of many orphans that she would end up taking care of over the coming years.

Cargill and Cocio together are sponsoring the renovation of their building and equipping it with sanitations and rooms for the orphans. As part of the renovation project, dorms will be built and furnished with beds, mattresses, tables and chairs. Cargill has also committed to providing a year’s supply of food, giving the children access to healthcare and paying for school tuition for all the children in the orphanage. Once the work is completed, we hope that the children will enjoy a safer, happier and healthier environment in which to grow and develop.
