Joining the sustainability journey (13/09/2010)

It is encouraging to see the engagement of many of our customers in the journey towards a sustainable cocoa supply chain. Baronie, Mars, H.J. Heinz with its De Ruijter and Venz brands, and FrieslandCampina Benelux with the Chocomel brand are all involved,

and many more are on the way. In one very positive step, Cargill and UTZ Certified recently signed an agreement with Norwegian chocolate and confectionery producer Nidar to move to supplying certified cocoa in the coming five years.

Such commitments complete the circle of our efforts on the ground in the origin countries to train farmers to a level of sustainable production under the UTZ Certification programme. This sustainable supply chain, from cocoa farm to product delivery, is independently audited to the criteria of the UTZ Certified code of conduct. It results in certified sustainable ingredients that you can use in your products - products for consumers to enjoy and feel good about!
